Neither variant is "worse" - just different
Varnish provides a smooth, sealed surface for homes with higher traffic. Oil-wax leaves the wood exposed—you can see the grain, feel the material, and years later, you can refresh the selected area. The choice is yours; we finish our boards in both ways.
Comparison
When to use varnish and when to use oil-wax?
Varnish creates a hard, sealed layer on top of the wood. It's suitable for homes with heavy traffic—children, pets, and sand from shoes. It creates a smooth, easy-to-clean surface.
The oil-wax penetrates the wood's structure, leaving a matte finish, visible grain, and a warmer feel to the interior. Years later, you can refresh a specific area—for example, the path between the kitchen and living room—without sanding the entire room.
Both coatings are applied at the factory—either with varnish or Overmat Profiline oil-wax. This ensures a repeatable effect and greater durability than on-site finishing.
Every day
Care and renovation
Oiled floor
Vacuum daily with a soft brush. Only dry clean a freshly oiled floor for the first 20 days. Afterward, mop with a well-wrung mop and Osmo Wisch-fix. Periodically refresh the oil layer—we recommend Osmo products that match the color of the floor.
Varnished floor
Vacuum, then mop with Flooria Daily Cleaner. Avoid excess water. Periodically apply Flooria Care Balmto keep the finish in good condition.
Years later
A varnished floor is usually refreshed by sanding a larger area and applying a new coat of varnish. With oil, a local refinishing of a selected area is often sufficient—without renovating the entire living room.
